A PRACTICAL SCREEN-SHARING GUIDE

How to share your screen
with audio.

To share sound, select a source that your browser can capture, enable its audio in the browser picker, and ask viewers to turn on playback sound.

Share browser-tab audio in ScreenSharing

  1. Open the tab you want to share

Make sure the tab is playing the audio you want viewers to hear. Check that it is not muted in your browser.

  2. Create a room and choose a source

On the homepage, select Share my screen. In the room, choose Choose a screen to open the browser’s screen picker.

  3. Select the tab and enable its audio

Choose the browser-tab option, select your tab, and enable Share tab audio if the browser offers it. Wording and layout vary by browser and operating system.

  4. Check the presenter’s audio status

Screen audio on means the source supplied an audio track and its sound is enabled. Screen audio off means you have muted that track. No source audio means the browser did not provide source sound.

  5. Have the viewer enable playback sound

Viewers start muted. They should choose Enable sound or the Sound is off prompt, then check the volume slider and their device volume.

Keep the sharing tab open. Pause stops outgoing screen and audio until you resume; Stop sharing stops both while keeping the room open.

Source audio, microphone and playback are different controls.

Source audio

Sound from the selected tab, window or screen, when the browser provides it. Screen audio controls only this sound.

Presenter microphone

Your spoken commentary. Choose Mic off to request microphone permission and enable it; choose Mic on to turn it off.

Viewer playback

What a viewer hears on their device. Enable sound unmutes playback; it cannot add audio that was never captured.

Add microphone commentary

After sharing starts, use the microphone button and allow microphone access when prompted. You can explain the screen even when the source has no audio. Turn the microphone off when you finish speaking.

The presenter’s own preview is muted to avoid playing the outgoing sound back locally. It is normal not to hear your shared audio from that preview. Use a separate viewer to check reception, preferably with headphones to avoid acoustic feedback.

Troubleshoot screen sharing with no sound

No microphone is availableCheck browser microphone permission and whether the device has an input. Screen sharing can continue without a microphone.

Can I share all computer audio?

It depends on your browser, operating system and selected source. ScreenSharing can send only the audio track the browser supplies. A permission prompt, an audio checkbox or a request for audio does not guarantee every source can provide sound.

If the picker does not offer audio for your desired screen or window, try a browser tab or use microphone commentary. This guide does not promise whole-system audio capture on every device.

Can viewers on phones hear it?

The viewer interface supports inline playback and a manual sound toggle. Actual phone and browser compatibility still needs real-device testing. Keep the viewing page active while testing.
